Why see a specialist?

It is important to see a reproductive specialist for complex mental health issues during pregnancy. There is limited research on the safety of medication in pregnancy, causing many providers to be overly-cautious (or, frankly, misinformed by outdated research) in advising pregnant people to stop their psychiatric medications. This devalues the mental wellbeing of the pregnant parent, as well as the impact of the parent’s struggles on the child.

What is reproductive mental health specialist?

My expertise in reproductive mental health means I have specialized training in treating psychiatric conditions as they relate to the menstrual cycle or pregnancy. This includes “trying” or planning phases, pregnancy, postpartum, and considerations during lactation. I also have experience treating premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

How do you treat pregnant people?

I believe people who feel well are better parents. For many people, especially for those with chronic mental health problems, this includes tools like therapy or taking medication. I take an evidence-based approach to all prescribing decisions during this sensitive time.

Do you only see people if they are pregnant?

No! I work with people planning to get pregnant, postpartum, as well as on issues related to menstruation– such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder. I am also happy to see you for 1-2 consultations regarding a medication plan during pregnancy if you would like to continue with your current provider.
